There is no legal requirement to carry out PAT tests specifically, but UK legislation states that all businesses must keep all electrical equipment in a safe condition and to maintain records to show evidence of this. That is what PAT Testing does for you and provides this information in the event of an incident. As the H&S Executive assume you are guilty until you can prove otherwise. Your insurance will also be invalid in the event of an incident if you can’t provide sufficient records to show you are maintaining your electrical appliances
